Technical specs -- all photos taken indoors, hand-held, available light (no flash). Nikon D700 camera, coupled with a Nikon 50mm f/1.8 lens. Camera settings -- all photos taken at 6400 ISO with High ISO Noise Reduction set to the "High" level. Shot in the Aperture priority with the f-stop set to 7.1 and with an exposure compensation of — 0.3. White Balance set to Auto and 0. Metering on the group of children (the first photo) was set to Matrix. Metering on all the other pix was set to Center Weighted. Very minimal post processing on all photos using PhotoShop CS3. Did not apply any noise reduction in CS3 and no third-party noise reduction program was used. I do notice some noise on a few of the photos, especially around the subjects' eyes, but the noise level is certainly not too bad. My conclusion is that the D700's noise level at 6400 is on par with what the D80 produces at 1600.
